After we were home from California a few days, we piled back in the car and we were off to Utah for Memorial Day weekend. On the way down, we took a small detour to ride the Front Runner Train (the Salt Lake Area commuter train). It's pretty sweet; it's a double-decker train. We started out on the top deck and then moved to front of the train near the engineer.
Max's cousins came with us. They look so sweet here, don't they? Like they always get along. Ha ha!! In fact, right after they took this picture they started bickering about who was going to sit where. At least they're cute for the picture!
We stayed at my aunt and uncle's cabin in Hobble Creek (up Springville Canyon). It was a little rough on Max. I had to rock him to sleep the first night. I can't remember the last time I did that. In the morning he said, "I don't like this big house. I want to go to Oma's house." Of course, it didn't take long until he loved the cabin. For days after we came home, Max requested that we have dinner at the cabin.
Thomas, the Tank Engine, was making his annual visit to Heber City. (It's about an hour from Provo up the canyon.) We decided to ride Thomas after lunch so we could take our time arriving. There is a restaurant called the Dairy Keen in Heber that is all train decor. Of course that's where we had lunch. The boys got to eat outside on the kid train tables. Here is Max with his cousin that lives in Utah.
Sorry this video is sideways. I really don't think it was when I took it, but oh well.
Although Max was exhausted, he enjoyed every moment. It started raining and got a little cold, but Max didn't complain.

They have the whole area set up with stuff for the kids to do, like this hay maze. Max was too cute cruisin' through it.

On the way down the canyon after Thomas, Max put his blanket on his head and went to sleep. (Honestly, until California, this NEVER happened!) He slept through the trip to Provo, slept in the car while some people ran into the grocery store, slept through me taking him out of the car, and slept on my lap through a noisy dinner at Brick Oven. It was unbelievable.
We spent a lazy day on Sunday together and had dinner at my brother and his wife's house with my aunt in Eagle Mountain. (Max fell asleep in the car on the way to their house.) The next day we packed up, met my brother and his family for lunch, and then put flowers on the graves of my relatives before heading back to Boise. Again, Max did great and fell asleep in the car for about 2 hours. I am hoping that this means we have reached a new milestone: sleeping in the car. I can always hope, right?
