Aloha! (Part 1)

Max had been looking forward to going to Hawaii for weeks. And so had Greg and I!

We left in the middle of the day, and Max did great on the first leg of the trip to Seattle.
We had a layover for several hours in Seattle, but that was fine. The airport had a play place for little kids and Max got to tromp around for quite a while and then we went and had dinner before we met up with Greg's sister Cheryl and her husband Conor at the gate. We walked up to the gate and got on the plane. The amazing part of this leg of the trip was that as soon as we took off, Max turned his head and went to sleep! He slept for a couple of hours out of the 6 hour plane ride. He did pretty well--a few tough minutes, but not too bad.

We arrived in Hawaii about 8 p.m. Greg's dad and his wife met us at the airport. Max didn't actually go to sleep until we had all settled, around 11:30 p.m., which was 3:30 a.m. back home! That is crazy! And then, he woke up 7 hours later! He crashed pretty hard later that day.
The resort we stayed in was so great! The rooms are nice, the view is amazing, and they have pools and man made coves that are PERFECT for a 3 year old. Here is the view from our room of the pools down below. The rooms did have a few flaws. Example: these pictures hung in our room. The first one is upside down. The second one is sideways. Come one. It's a palm tree and some coconuts. And it's bolted to the wall, so it's not like some guest did it as a joke! Max LOVED the beach. Every day I would ask him what his favorite part of the day was, and he'd say, "the sandy beach part."It was cool that Greg got to spend Father's Day with his dad. He doesn't get to do that often. I love this picture of the 3 generations.Max also discovered his love of Otter Pops in Hawaii. The boy also proved he could eat. He cleared a full sized quesadilla at lunch at Cholo's in Haleiwa one day.He also developed a love for Shave Ice. (That is not a typo. In Hawaii, it's not shaved ice, it's shave ice.)Matsumoto's on the North Shore has THE best shave ice. There is always a line. But it always worth waiting for. They put vanilla ice cream in the bottom. The first time I heard that when we lived here 10 years ago, I thought it would be disgusting, but I tried it at the behest of Greg, and I was sold. This is a must anytime we come to Oahu. It is SOOO good. Max loved it so much, he wouldn't stop eating it long enough for Greg to put him in the car.
